Angela Liu represented China's new generation of women, attending the famous Zhejiang University before working her way up at a company and earning a higher salary than her husband, a public servant. All that changed when she turned 30 and gave birth to her first child. Very few women remain in senior positions at her bank, and therefore she quit to become a full-time housewife.

像許多其他中國(guó)新一代女性，劉女士就讀于浙江大學(xué)并且在畢業(yè)后找到一份穩(wěn)定的工作，薪酬高于她當(dāng)公務(wù)員的丈夫。但當(dāng)她30歲生下第一個(gè)孩子時(shí)，一切都變了。很少有女性能夠在銀行擔(dān)任高級(jí)職位，因此劉女士決定辭職成為全職家庭主婦。

For decades, ideologically-imposed gender equality empowered women to pursue university degrees and ambitious careers in China. Market-oriented reforms, however, have eroded the institutions designed to help women, while outdated policies hostile to working women, such as hiring discrimination, remain.

幾十年來(lái)，意識(shí)形態(tài)上傳播的性別平等讓女性有攻讀學(xué)位和打拼事業(yè)的雄心。然而事實(shí)上，以市場(chǎng)為導(dǎo)向的政策改革削弱了那些旨在為廣大女性提供切實(shí)有效幫助和支持的機(jī)構(gòu)，而那些對(duì)職業(yè)女性不利的過(guò)時(shí)政策依然存在，如針對(duì)女性的就業(yè)歧視。

However, "in China, especially in tech companies, we are creating a new kind of corporate culture," says Bianca Yin, a project manager at Didi, China's largest ride-hailing platform.

但是，滴滴的項(xiàng)目經(jīng)理尹女士表示，"在中國(guó)，特別是在科技公司，我們正在創(chuàng)造一種新的企業(yè)文化。"

Didi president, Jean Liu, a former managing director at Goldman Sachs, was the mother of young children when she was recruited to run the start-up. Didi's staff said having such a role model in the business boosted morale. The company has set up a women's network and piloted a leadership course.

劉青，原高盛亞洲區(qū)董事總經(jīng)理，決定加盟滴滴出任總裁時(shí)的她還是三個(gè)孩子的母親。滴滴的員工說(shuō)公司中有這樣一個(gè)榜樣，十分鼓舞團(tuán)隊(duì)士氣。不僅如此，滴滴出行更是于去年宣布由CEO程維和總裁柳青共同發(fā)起成立女性職業(yè)成長(zhǎng)計(jì)劃"滴滴女性聯(lián)盟"，以在激發(fā)公司多元文化氛圍,推動(dòng)高潛能女性更快成長(zhǎng),創(chuàng)造更有利于女性職場(chǎng)發(fā)展的工作環(huán)境。這是中國(guó)互聯(lián)網(wǎng)公司第一個(gè)推出的針對(duì)女性職業(yè)發(fā)展的計(jì)劃。

"She understands us, what career development should look like and what challenges remain," says Ms. Yin. She took Didi's leadership course, and now heads Didi's women's network.

"劉總裁十分理解我們，也了解身為女性在職業(yè)發(fā)展中會(huì)面臨的挑戰(zhàn)，"尹女士說(shuō)。她參與了滴滴的女性領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力項(xiàng)目，并負(fù)責(zé)管理"滴滴女性聯(lián)盟"的運(yùn)營(yíng)。

Yet successful women say they are still struggling with doing business, especially in industries, such as finance, which remain mostly run by men.

然而，一些成功的職場(chǎng)女性依然表示職業(yè)發(fā)展具有較大的難度，尤其在那些被男性主導(dǎo)的行業(yè)與領(lǐng)域，如金融。

Women bear the burden of reading the situation when professional and social spheres collide, even feeling guilty if they spurn romantic overtures from a potentially helpful contact, says Annie Zhou, founder of Universal Pacific Advisors, a consulting company.

環(huán)球太平洋咨詢(xún)公司的創(chuàng)始人周女士表示，女性經(jīng)常承擔(dān)著職場(chǎng)中人脈積累與社交生活發(fā)生碰撞所帶來(lái)的后果。她們時(shí)常需要面對(duì)在經(jīng)營(yíng)人脈的過(guò)程當(dāng)中，被客戶(hù)追求表白的尷尬局面。

She gave up some of her contacts, believing that not even a professional relationship was worth the emotional stress but recognizes that others might not be able to do the same. "What women [in China] face is that a lot of the time they have potential business relationships with these people, so they feel uncomfortable telling them that they are uncomfortable."

由于周女士認(rèn)為職業(yè)發(fā)展與私人生活應(yīng)保持獨(dú)立分開(kāi)的關(guān)系，她不得已放棄了很多客戶(hù)，但她也意識(shí)到其他人可能做不到這一點(diǎn)。"在中國(guó)很多女性面臨的問(wèn)題是，不知道如何拒絕客戶(hù)的請(qǐng)求而不傷害到潛在的業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系。"

Yet overall, women in business in China say circumstances are improving, particularly when the momentum is maintained by trailblazers.

但總體而言，中國(guó)商界女性表示情況正在改善，尤其是在那些成功職場(chǎng)女性的影響下。

Ms. Tu says: "A big part of [gender equality] is awareness - envisioning some female leaders who are pretty advanced in their careers and who, through being that role model, [affect] more women throughout the company."
